Great fires were lit at many points in the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus (GASC) due to the Easter celebrations. In the news in the Greek press, it was noted that the Greek police had difficulties in controlling the situation as a result of the sound of explosions and fires from many regions.
Firefighters intervened in hundreds of fires, including a major fire that occurred yesterday in the Pera Chorio Nisou area outside Nicosia. A total of 261 fires were brought under control: 133 in Nicosia, 45 in Larnaca, 36 in Limassol, 26 in Paphos and 12 in Famagusta.
The Greek Fire Department, which had to intervene in the fires as a result of the random use of firecrackers and burning large fires due to the celebrations, had to call the public to “give up”.
After the images that the country turned into a chaos environment, it was stated that the situation was worse in the Greek part of Nicosia and in Larnaca and Limassol regions. Especially in the Limassol region, where the incidents were intense, a police patrol was caught in flames due to the crackers and Molotov cocktails thrown by the youth.
