Oxford University has announced that they have received ethical approval for a human clinical trial to measure the immune system’s response in the case of coronavirus survivors caught the virus for the second time.
Professor Helen McShane said, “The purpose of this study is to determine what type of immune response prevents reinfection.” People who will participate in the clinical trial are expected to be determined next week.
With this clinical trial, the Oxford team will measure the levels of various components of the participants’ immune response, including T cells and antibodies, and then track whether participants are re-infected when exposed to the virus.
Participants must be healthy, at low risk, between the ages of 18 and 30, and have had coronavirus at least three months before participating in the trial. It was also stated that these people should have had antibodies against coronavirus, as well as having a positive Covid PCR test.
