Automotive Authorized Dealers Association (OYDER) Chairman Turgay Mersin noted that the appetite for buying cars may increase again with the summer months. Mersin said, “However, if there is a problem in vehicle supply, even if there is a very high demand, we will not be able to sell it after there is no car. This will affect the second hand market. The second hand will be demand. It is early to talk about them now, but if the situation about the supply shortage becomes clear towards the end of May With this vaccine and other exchange rate policy, maybe we can evaluate this more accurately in late May and early June.
Stating that there is not a big problem at the point of vehicle availability, although it varies on the basis of the brand, Mersin said, “But for example, for the brand that I am a dealer, 4-day production will be suspended due to supply, May 12-16. Other brands also stop production. Therefore, it would be more appropriate to evaluate the availability issue and the appetite for purchase at the end of the month or at the beginning of June. There is no big problem for now, but it seems that the problem will increase as we go forward … ”
“A SECOND HAND MAY BE AN OPPORTUNITY”
Expressing that prices also increase when demand is high, Turgay Mersin said that exchange rate policy, increase in demand and tax regulations will affect prices.
Emphasizing that this situation should not be “turned into opportunism”, Mersin said:
“I think the most important issue here is that if there is a shortage of availability in the first hand as in 2020, second hand prices may rise again, because compared to last year, second hand prices came back, especially in the first 3 months. If our citizens who want to buy, especially if they think of second hand, we think that the period of buying them may be over. Second hand price always creates the market by taking first-hand reference, and also creates the price due to the demand. … “
Reminding that the dealers and services are not open during the closing process, Mersin said that after the closure is over, all dealers will continue to provide services by taking the necessary measures and they can compensate the losses during the closure.
