The General Directorate of Security issued a circular. People who recorded the police while they were on duty were asked to be prevented. In the Circular, it was pointed out that with the developing technology, sound and video reception has become more frequent and these are also shared on digital platforms.
It was stated that this situation violated the privacy of private life and the protection of personal data, and sometimes reached a level that would prevent the police from working.
For this reason, people who registered were blocked and asked to take legal action.
Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu responded to the criticisms about the Circular. Soylu, in a live broadcast he attended, said, “There are 2 pillars here. One is to protect personal data, the second is privacy of private life. Security is for freedom. There is neither constitutional nor democracy violation here.”
